iVote launches online offensive against Husted

WASHINGTON, DC - In response to a series of egregious efforts to restrict voting in recent weeks by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, iVote announced today that it has launched a targeted digital ad buy designed to draw attention to the Secretary of State race and mobilize supporters.

"iVote exists to go on offense for voting rights, and that's just what we're going to do," said iVote Executive Director Steven Walker. "This digital ad blitz against Husted is the first against Secretaries of State who, instead of doing their jobs to expand voting access, use their offices to create barriers and limit access. iVote is dedicated to the powerful notion that every eligible citizen - Democrat, Republican and Independent - should vote, and we will aggressively defend that principle."

The near six-figure digital ad buy will target web sites, social media and Pandora radio.

Husted has frequently tried to eliminate early voting days in an attempt to make voting more difficult in Ohio. Most recently, he announced an end to Sunday voting. Additionally, the Ohio legislature followed his urging in creating barriers to absentee voting and eliminating a week of early voting.

Supporters of Husted's actions claim that they are trying to prevent election fraud. But Husted himself has said election fraud is "a very rare occurrence."
