Automatic Voter Registration in Illinois

Illinois State Senator Andy Manar is sponsoring SB 250, an Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) bill that if enacted, would simply change the voter registration system from one where voters must opt in for voter registration to a system where voters who do not want to be registered can opt out if they choose. SB 250 will cut the cost of voter registration and make the system more modern, accurate and fair. Over time, AVR will register over 2 million eligible Illinois citizens who are not currently registered to vote, regardless of party affiliation.

The Senate has until Friday, May 13th to pass SB 250 and send it to the House of Representatives.
