In 2012, California was ranked 38th in the nation for voter registration. With more than 7 million eligible Californians not registered to vote, it's time to enact Automatic Voter Registration to ensure that all eligible citizens can cast a ballot and participate in our democracy.
The California New Motor Voter Act sponsored by Secretary of State Alex Padilla passed in the legislature and has been sent to the Governor's desk.
Sign our petition to ask Governor Brown to sign the California New Motor Voter Act and make it easier for every eligible Californian to vote.
New Jersey is ranked 39th in the U.S. in the percentage of eligible voters who are registered to vote, with only 64.3%. New Jersey also ranks 39th in the U.S. for voter turnout, with an average of only 54.5%. Only 5.1% of voters turned out to vote in June's primary, which broke a 90 year record for low turnout.
The Democracy Act will help modernize our voting system and strengthen our democracy. If signed by Governor Christie, the law will establish automatic voter registration for eligible voters, institute online registration and in-person early voting in every county, and make it easier for our armed service members to vote while abroad, all while cracking down on voter fraud.
The New Jersey legislature has already passed the bill and sent it to Governor Christie.
