Senator Andy Manar is sponsoring Senate Bill 2134, an automatic voter registration (AVR) bill that if enacted, would simply change the current Illinois Motor Voter system from one where voters must opt in for voter registration to a system where voters who do not want to be registered can opt out. SB 2134 will cut the cost of voter registration and make the system more modern, accurate, and fair.
Over time, AVR will register over 2 million eligible Illinois citizens who are not currently registered to vote, regardless of party affiliation. The plan does not apply to those applying for temporary visitor driver’s licenses.
Senator Patricia Van Pelt is a cosponsor of Senate Bill 2134. A vote for Senator Van Pelt is a vote for fair elections.
